What is traced.at
traced.at is the data-collection side of Dialed: a standalone iPhone app that records a trail per meter while you ride it. Where the main app is about your bike, traced is about the trail itself.
traced.at is invite only. Recording trail data well takes local knowledge and care, so we work with a small group of ambassadors per region. Think you should be one of them? Get in touch.
What it records
- Surfaces: what you are riding on, meter by meter: loam, roots, rock, sand, gravel.
- Features: sticky sections like berms, rock gardens, skinnies; they stay active until you toggle them off.
- Pins: single points such as a sharkfin, step-up, step-down or road gap, optionally with a short video clip.
- Road recon: for road and gravel, the same idea applied to surface quality and race-relevant points.
Recording works completely offline; rides upload when you are back in coverage and you control the visibility of each ride (private, friends, team or public) before it leaves the review screen.
Where the data goes
Uploaded traces feed the public trail pages: route stats like typical lap and climb time are medians computed from real recorded rides, and surface characterization comes from what ambassadors actually tagged on the ground. Nothing on a trail page is invented; if the number is missing, the tile simply does not show.
The apps relate like this
| App | Role |
|---|---|
| dialed.at | Your garage, setups, community |
| Dialed for iPhone | The same, offline-first, in your pocket |
| traced.at | Invite-only recorder that feeds trail data to both |
